Covers So Lovely We'd Lick them #13

 Thursday, 31 March 2011

I know some folk might be wondering where the hell #12 went but with my horrendous lack of posting last week I am skipping that one because Jess did actually post her side of Covers so if I make *this* one #12 it will just confuzzle our numbering system and we are so easily confused it's best not to risk it :P

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them!
The new feature co-created and co-hosted by LadyViolet and Jess hearts books where we show off a book cover which we find so damn scrumptious that we'd actually be willing to lick it!
Every week we each pick a different cover so be sure to check both blogs!

This beaut of a cover has caught my eye recently with it's kinda eerie mix of gorgeous dress and creepy griminess if you catch my drift. The smoky mottled effect at the top and bottom of the cover plus the aptly shattered title font give quite a unsettled feeling about the book. I think the model's pose is really cool with it's languid draping over the title and the crumbling dress made of rose petals is just seven kinds of fabulous. The way the bloody red colour of the petals stands out is wonderful and overall it really piques my interest in the book.  And with this description I am further intrigued...

Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey
Lenzi hears voices. She also sees visions--gravestones, floods, a gorgeous guy with steel gray eyes. She knows she must be going crazy, just like her dad did. Her boyfriend, Zak, can't do anything to help, and the voices just keep getting louder, the visions more intense. But when Lenzi meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, everything makes sense.
Sort of.
He tells Lenzi that she's a reincarnated Speaker--someone who can talk to lost souls and help them move on--and that he has been her Protector for centuries. But instead of embracing her abilities, Lenzi struggles between her life as the girlfriend of a sexy musician and the life she is destined to lead with Alden. Yet time is running out; a malevolent spirit has been trying to destroy Lenzi for ages, and he will surely kill her if she doesn't make a decision soon.
Her choices are clear: Destiny or normalcy. Alden or Zak. Life or death. (Description taken from Goodreads)

Shattered Souls isn't out until December of this year so we do have rather a long wait ahead of us but I'm sure we can find enough awesome books to keep us occupied in the mean time. :D

So that's what scrumptious cover I'm licking this week, go check out what Cover Jess is drooling over at Jess Hearts Books and if you missed last week's edition check that out here!

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them #11

 Thursday, 17 March 2011

So after last week's little break from Covers Jess and I are happy to be back with two fabulously new and sparkly covers to drool over.

I know that there's nary a person who isn't in love with Etienne St Clair and with the reveal of the spangly new cover for Stephanie Perkins' sophomore novel - Lola and the Boy Next Door I would bet large amounts of money that all those folk are *vair* anxious to meet Cricket Bell, the titled "Boy Next Door".

This cover is just as fun as the cover of Anna but this time we actually get to see the boy which is very much appreciated :P I am also in love with Lola's hair - I WANT PURPLE HAIR!! Not only that but her outfit is totally squiffy and cool! This whole cover looks so darn cute I reckon it'd be like nibbling on cotton candy (or candy floss if you're Britishly inclined).

Looking past the cover I gotta say that this description from Goodreads has got me dancing with impatience to read the book already!
In this companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss, two teens discover that true love may be closer than they think.
For budding costume designer Lola Nolan, the more outrageous, the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins move back into the house next door.
When the family returns and Cricket—a gifted inventor and engineer—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Are we not in agreement? Is this the book that we will all be *dying* for all summer? Erm I do indeed believe so! Stephanie Perkins I doff my beret to you for being generally awesome and for creating the most frustratingly lovable Frenglican boy to ever grace the pages of YA. Etienne St Clair - you know where to find me :P

So that's What I'm licking this week, dash on over to Jess's Blog to see what lump of fabulosity she's getting all excited about this week.

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them #10

 Thursday, 3 March 2011

Hello thar! It's time for another scrummy edition of...

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them!

Image taken from The Vespertine website

The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell
It was a couple of months back that this book got its final cover design and I have to say I am very much taken with the delicious chocolatey brown colour of that dress and in general with the gorgeosity of the whole cover. The way the girl's hair is flying about her face as she's running is so amazing and it really makes me intrigued to know how the story links to it because it gives a definite air of mystery and tension.
Also I totally heart the curly title font, I have a strange love of beautiful calligraphy and would love to be able to write in cursive like some people can *grumbles enviously*

Now the great thing about this book is that not only is the cover simply fantabulous but I am vair excited to devour the story itself as soon as I can get my greedy little mitts on a copy.

Book Description:
It’s the summer of 1889, and Amelia van den Broek is new to Baltimore and eager to take in all the pleasures the city has to offer. But her gaiety is interrupted by disturbing, dreamlike visions she has only at sunset—visions that offer glimpses of the future. Soon, friends and strangers alike call on Amelia to hear her prophecies. However, a forbidden romance with Nathaniel, an artist, threatens the new life Amelia is building in Baltimore. This enigmatic young man is keeping secrets of his own—still, Amelia finds herself irrepressibly drawn to him.
When one of her darkest visions comes to pass, Amelia’s world is thrown into chaos. And those around her begin to wonder if she’s not the seer of dark portents, but the cause. (Taken from Goodreads)

Doesn't it sound amazing?!? I really need some more supernatural-esque historical YA fiction in my life and this lump of yumminess looks to be the perfect choice! It's due to be released on the 7th March so order it now!!

So that's What I'm Licking this Week head on over to Jess's blog and check out her pick this week!

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them #9

 Thursday, 24 February 2011

Dude I know people are probably wondering what the heck I'm playing at leaving y'all hanging for a week and then only reappearing with a bunch of pretty covers to apologise but I've been having a little unexpected Hiatus since my blogging mojo has kinda buggered off. Although I do have a bucket load of reviews I need to write it is currently the last thing I want to do :( I will be trying to get a review done before weeks end and hopefully next week normalish posting will resume since February will be over and it's been an overall naff month.

So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchev (Theatre Illuminata #3)
I know I'm not the only person to gush about this cover in the past week but Oh My Freaking Gods this is quite possibly the most beautiful cover I have ever seen in my life. Steph Su said it first but please can I get this cover framed for my wall? Not to mention that I *lust* after that dress with a passion, I mean the cover artist even shows the embroidery detail on the bodice! *flails*
The girl herself is so damn pretty and delicate and looks simply luminous *sigh* and her expression is so heart-wrenching, I mean look at her eyes! Man I could start pulling out all the pretentious art jargon if I sat staring at this cover for too long it really is *that* gorgeous.

I will fess up to not having read any of the books in the Theatre Illuminata series and I'm hesitant to do so even though I think that all 3 covers are outrageously delectable to the eyes. As folk might have gathered from my lukewarm review of the Iron Witch there's just something about Faerie books that doesn't mesh with me. I don't know what it is but I never really love this type of book so it would be such a shame for me to pick up these fabulously presented books and not enjoy them as much as they deserve.

I defer the duty of recommending these books to people who don't have my weird bias against Faerie books, if you've read any of this series then speak up and tell others what you thought of it if you please :)

So that's what I've been lusting over this week, do hop on over to Jess's Blog to check out what cover she's Licking this week!

Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus
Dude have I ever told you guys how much I love green eyes? This is the UK cover which will be coming out on the 10th of May and by heck is it gorgeous! The eye colour totally pops and there's a cool kinda netting veil-thing around the face and damn is it just infinitely more interesting to look at than the US cover! (Just Sayin'). Also the title font is pretty funky to boot.

The story itself sounds vair interesting with a good dollop of supernatural mystery and danger so this is certainly gonna be on my to-buy list when May rolls around.

So that's the Cover I'm drooling over this week, go to Jess's Blog to check out what cover she's lovin' this Thursday!

I thought I'd be a bit sneaky this week and choose a book that's based on the same fairy tale as what Jess picked.
Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George is also based off the story of the 12 Dancing Princesses and I really enjoyed it when I read it last year. It's got a gorgeous cover and I'm sure everyone knows by now about my PDS (Pretty Dress Syndrome) - what I wouldn't give to dance the night away in ^^ that gown *wistful sigh*

Jessica Day George has written another book that features one of the twelve sisters from PofMB called Princess of Glass which as you might guess from the title is based off the tale of Cinderella. That also has a fabulously delectable cover. Just lookit that! *drools*

This is currently out in hardback but the paperback is coming out on June 21st 2011 which is what I'm anxiously waiting for *fidgets*.

If you think these covers are scrum-diddly-umptuous then skip on over to Jess's Blog and feast your eyes on the cover she's licking this week!

Ah ha! Surprise! I see I've caught you unawares with a sudden appearance of another scrumptious Cover! I know it's been a couple of weeks but since my lovely co-host is able to post this week it means I get to pick out a cover that I find to be such a treat for the eyes that I have to shout about it. Shall we begin?

Die for Me by Amy Plum
This is the outrageously gorgeous UK cover for this supernatural debut novel. The US cover for this is pretty enough but *this* is sublime! The dress is fabulous just from the back so I'd kill to know what it looked like from the front. I love all the curly patterns around the title and the view across Paris makes me really eager to read it (cos books set in Paris are sooo in right now dahling).

It's gonna be released on May 5th 2011 and heck knows I'll be waiting for it anxiously!

So that's What I'm Licking this Week, go see what Jess is Licking over on her blog!

 Thursday, 13 January 2011

Howdy all tis another Thursday and that means it's time for more lip-smackingly gorgeous covers!

The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
This week's pick is a tad different because it doesn't actually look like a photographed cover (I don't know whether it is or not but that's my impression). Either way I really love the cover for the second book in this Fantasy series.
When you look at it in person the picture almost looks like it was painted and the colours are fabulous and rich. Plus I think the women's dress is fantastic and the hook is rather bad-ass - I wonder if it actually has significance in the book? (I haven't read it yet so I don't know). It's one of those covers that you *know* is for a fantasy book without being hideously cheesy and gaudy.

All the covers for this series have the look of being paintings rather than photographs and they're all gorgeous but I especially love the green of this cover. It's also a really good series - I thoroughly enjoyed The Thief and I'll probably be starting this book shortly.

So that's What I'm Licking this week, head over to Jess's blog to find out what she's Licking This Week
Adios amigos!

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them #4

 Thursday, 6 January 2011

Hey folks now I know some people might have been wondering where the fandazzle the cover feature went after only 3 weeks back in November but if you also follow Jess of Jess Hearts Books then you might know that her computer went kaput and she wasn't able to blog for 3 weeks so instead of just posting my side of the cover feature we put it on hold until we both could post our delicious cover picks. And thankfully the time has come for us to relaunch the feature! *drumroll*

Wood Angel by Erin Bow

If people are recognising the author's name and thinking "ooh has she got a new book out?" sorry but no. This is the cover for the UK edition of Plain Kate. For reasons unknown the title has been changed but I gotta say that I *Adore* this cover far more than the US version.

The curly title lettering is lovely and the faery-like girl surrounded by sparkling flora and fauna is simply beautiful. The colours are not garish and I really love the green and the silvery-white of the girl's dress.

Although it doesn't exactly scream "sort-of high fantasy story" it is mind-bogglingly gorgeous and I'm really excited to get it when it's released on the 7th of March 2011.

So That's What I'm Licking This Week (although this cover might call for delicate nibbling :P)
Go Check out what Jess is Licking this Week over on her blog!

Envy by Anna Godbersen

Yes I know that I've gone for the PDS books for three weeks straight but seriously HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS COVER?!? Gah Anna's publishers have the best cover design team *evah* The fabulous curly writing of the title and Oh.em.eff.gee - That Dress! *dies* The overall design is so simple and elegant and perfect for the historical genre
I would love to have my wedding dress look like that with the tight-fitted bodice and the massively pouffy skirt, it'd be like a yummy meringue of a  dress! Oooh I could just gobble it up!
I know that this is the third book in the series but out of all four gaw-juss covers I like this one the best. If you want to drool over the others then feel free. And tell me which is *your* fav out of the four?

*drools* So much pretty

Well that's what I'm Licking this Week - I promise next week it'll be a cover sans pretty dresses. Go Check out what Jess is Licking this week!

 Thursday, 4 November 2010

Egads! It's Thursday again and you know what *that* means! Wait you don't? Dang where you been? Bah anyways it is once again time for me to goo and drool senselessly over book covers I find especially delectable.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
I decided to go slightly old school this week with the first book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy. This another of those covers that sets off my PDS *big* time - I know technically she's not wearing a dress but for some reason I really love that corset! (Probably cos I think it'd be cool to wear one- breathing's overrated anyway)
I also really love the rich red background cos it make the white of the corset stand out really well.
Frankly all the covers in this trilogy are outrageously gorgeous. I mean look at them!! *drools* I'm torn between which on is my favourite!

So that's what I'm Licking this week! Check out Jess's Post - she's Licking Halo by Alexandra Adornetto this week (again very jealous :P)

Covers So Lovely We'd Lick Them #1!!

 Thursday, 28 October 2010

Hey hey! What a wonderful kind of day! (Ten cookies to the person who knows what that's from :P)
Well guess what folks? It's the first and insanely awesome post of the new joint feature that I and Jess of Jess hearts books are hosting every Thursday. If you missed the post where I explained the origin of this rather uniquely named feature then check it out here!!

My Pick for this Week
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Gah, I don't think I can quite express how much I *want* that dress the model is wearing - so damn gorgeous!! I suffer from PDS (Pretty Dress Syndrome) so every time I clap eyes on a book cover with a particularly fabulous dress on it I get serious envy and wish there was some way to drag the dress off the cover so I can wear it!

I also love the smokey background so it's kind of dark but the cover isn't all black like oodles of other paranormal books of late. The pink is lovely and shimmery too and I don't even really like pink!

Note: This is the UK cover that I got off Amazon.co.uk - it's essentially the same as the US one but there's just a *teensy* bit more floatiness going on with the dress and the thistle-looking things are more prominent.

The UK paperback is coming out on the 6th January 2011 from HarperCollins Children's Books so be sure to pre-order it now!!

So that's the cover I'd Lick this week, go check out Jess's post- she's Licking Nightshade this week! (No fair :P)
